Jen is a public radio storyteller and magazine editor. She produces a weekly radio series about food and agriculture which airs on public radio station WNCW. She is also contributing editor at WNC Magazine and her stories have been heard on NPR and BBC. She’s on a life-long quest to recreate her grandma’s noodle kugel.
Digital Producer: Bex Hellbender
Bex is a web developer and photographer whose recent projects include Serial, This American Life, and Fresh Air. They are also a baker who teaches workshops and co-organizes the Asheville Bread Festival. Her bagels and babka are legendary.

C.A. grew up listening to farm women exchanging recipes on AM radio in rural Iowa. She earned an M.F.A. in creative writing from Cornell University, and she currently writes for Our State, Edible Asheville, and other publications. Every winter, she makes her father’s famous beef stew (secret ingredient: V8 juice).
Season One Co-Host: Cass Herrington
Cass is BPR’s Morning Edition host and news reporter. She co-hosted the first season of Skillet before joining Blue Ridge Public Radio in 2019. A Kentucky native, she is fluent in Spanish, loves to travel, and is a proud, bleed-blue Kentucky Wildcats fan.
